Friends of Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park Host National Trails Day Event on Saturday, June 4

Join the Friends of Lewis & Clark Caverns on Saturday, June 4 as they host the American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day® 2011“Made With All Natural Ingredients”. Learn about noxious weeds and help clean up the trails at Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park. Participants will enjoy a free lunch provided by the park, as well as prizes and raffles. Everyone is welcome. Wear sturdy walking shoes and bring water, sunscreen, gloves, and gardening tools.

The day’s schedule starts at 9 am at the campground pavilion with a check-in and weed identification training, followed by trails work. The event includes a Leave No Trace presentation at 1:45 pm. Volunteers may join the Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers for an interactive program that provides the tools necessary to enjoy the outdoors responsibly. Another such hands-on program will be presented for the general public that evening at 8 pm.

American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day® is an open invitation to all Americans to get outside and celebrate our nation’s trails. Ongoing since 1993 and now celebrated in all 50 states and Puerto Rico, National Trails Day has inspired thousands of people to take part in hikes, bike and horse rides, trail maintenance projects, paddle trips and other activities.

This 19th annual event will bring together outdoor enthusiasts across the country for the celebration of America's magnificent trail system and its countless supporters and volunteers.
