A draft management plan for Makoshika State Park is available for public review and comment.
The plan, put together by a local advisory committee and Fish, Wildlife & Parks, will guide park operations, educational efforts, recreational opportunities, visitor services, community relations, paleontological and natural resource conservation for the next ten years.
Ryan Sokoloski, Makoshika State Park Manager, feels the guidance the advisory committee recommended for managing the park over the next decade is very important. “Makoshika State Park and the Glendive community have had a long-standing commitment to work together for common economic growth and conservation goals. We want to continue this relationship with such things as expanding educational programs at the park, helping the community develop a better rifle range, and partnering with the community to market the park in ways that help the local economy.”
Copies of the draft plan are on the FWP web page, under Public Notices, Makoshika State Park - Draft Management Plan. Copies are also available by visiting Makoshika State Park visitor center between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. or by calling the park at (406) 377-6256.
An open house will take place at the park visitor center from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., July 14, for anyone who wants to learn more or ask questions about the plan. Comments can be submitted at that time.Public comments will be accepted for thirty days, through August 7, 2005, by mail to: Makoshika State Park, Plan Comments, P.O.
