At the end of June, the Parks Division received 18 grant applications for outdoor recreation projects from local communities. Successful applicants will be funded through the Land & Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), a federal grants program administered by FWP. Eligible applicants include; incorporated city or towns, counties, school districts, or tribal governments. The kinds of local projects funded in the past include facilities such as ball fields, tennis courts, ice skating ponds, picnic facilities, and walking trails.
A five-member LWCF Selection Committee reviewed applications, scoring them with the aid of established scoring criteria. Recently, six provisional finalists were forwarded to the National Park Service, who oversees administration of LWCF on the Federal level, for review and approval.
