Montana State Parks News - Region 2

(Missoula, MT) Montana State Parks ( announced today that Milltown State Park is participating in a community celebration of the restored confluence of the Clark Fork and Blackfoot Rivers and will be hosting two special events on Saturday, August 3.

What: Join Us for “Community-at-the-Confluence” and “Milltown to Downtown”.

“Community at the Confluence,” co-hosted with Friends of Two Rivers and the Clark Fork Coalition, will be held in conjunction with the Coalition’s “Milltown-to-Downtown Float” and Missoula River Festival.

The fun begins in the morning with “Community at the Confluence” at the former Milltown Dam site, soon to be developed as part of the new Milltown State Park. Although the area remains closed following the Superfund cleanup and restoration, it will open to the public for this special event. “Community at the Confluence” will feature education stations on river safety and restoration, and local history hosted by area nonprofits. FWP wildlife biologists will also be on hand with informational displays on wildlife of the Bonner-Milltown area. Montana State Parks staff will lead a guided walking tour of Milltown State Park at 11:00am and at Noon, as well as an interpretive ranger program focusing on bull trout and Clark Fork River restoration at 11:30am and 12:30pm. Visitors can enjoy live music along the river and also purchase a barbecue lunch.

Milltown State Park will serve as the launch point for the “Milltown-to-Downtown Float.” Shuttles to the put-in at Milltown State Park will be provided for tubers on a first-come, first-serve basis, leaving every half hour from Caras Park between 10am and 1pm. While there is no boat ramp at the site, rafts and other hand-carry watercraft will be permitted. Participants, however, are responsible for their own shuttles as there will be no parking at Milltown State Park for the float event.
