R3 Week 3 Check Station Summary

R3 Week 3 Check Station Summary

Hunter observations indicate that elk remain scattered across all summer and fall habitats and suggest limited movement toward winter range. With snow and cooler weather forecast this week, more animals could move towards winter range.

Six check stations operated throughout the southwestern part of the state. Elk are concentrated in timbered areas, and hunters able to hike in are meeting with success. Most of the elk harvested came from Cameron, Mill Creek and Divide check stations. Alder reported the highest success rate for deer across the region.
