Region 3 Check Station Summary Weekend 2 2017

Region 3 Check Station Summary Weekend 2 2017

Sunny skies and warmer temperatures greeted hunters to start the second weekend of the general hunting season in Montana with harvest success slightly down compared to opening weekend and fewer hunters heading into the field.

Again, the Cameron check station was the busiest in Region 3 with 360 hunters stopping to meet with staff and volunteers. Last week, the same check stations saw 691 hunters come through.

At the check stations at Divide and Mill Creek in the Butte area, in addition to deer and elk, a moose was brought through each station and hunter numbers were relatively high respectively speaking.

Hunter success was the highest in the Gardiner area with over 14 percent of hunters bringing through deer or elk.

In addition to the data gathered in terms of hunter harvest at the two check stations in Park County (Livingston and Gardiner), 22 chronic wasting disease samples were also collected for testing.

It is important to note that several stations will only be operating on the first and last weekends of the season.
