Hunter, Bowhunter Education classes updated

Hunting - Region 7

There are several Hunter Education and Bowhunter Education courses scheduled in communities located in Fish, Wildlife & Parks Region 7 in coming weeks. Class information is provided below, and interested people are encouraged to check the website, fwp.mt.gov, often as new classes are added. Currently there are two Bowhunter Education field days also accepting online students.

HUNTER EDUCATION COURSES

Miles City

April 28-30

A Hunter Education class will be offered in Miles City on April 28-30. Online registration for the class is open from March 27-April 21 or until class is full. Capacity is 40 students, and there is no waiting list.

On Friday, April 28, class will run from 6-8 p.m. at the Fish, Wildlife & Parks headquarters in Miles City. On Saturday and Sunday, class is from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., with the field day a portion of Sunday’s class.

The field day is not open to online students. Once registered, students must pick up the mandatory homework packet from the FWP office no later than April 21, or they will be dropped from the class. Students must bring signed copies of registration forms found online and completed homework to the first night of class to be admitted. A parent or guardian must attend for the first half hour of Friday’s class for all students under 18. Students must attend all classes to receive certification.

Sidney

August 7, 8, 10, 11, 12

A Hunter Education class is set for August 7, 8, 10, 11 and 12 in Sidney at the Eastern Ag Research Center. Registration is available online from July 1-July 31 and is limited to 50 students. No late registrations will be accepted.

Students must print all required forms from the registration site at fwp.mt.gov. They must attend all days. Workbooks and assignments will be handed out at orientation on August 1, from 6-8 p.m. All students under 18 must have a parent or guardian attend this session. All chapter quizzes must be done before the first class. Classes are August 7, 8, 10 and 11 from 6-9 p.m., and students should bring a pencil.

The field day on August 12 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. is not open to online students. Everyone must wear proper hunting attire and shoes.

BOWHUNTER EDUCATION COURSES

Miles City

March 22-25

Registration is still open for a Bowhunter Education class in Miles City on March 22-25. There are 18 of 30 seats remaining, and people should register online at fwp.mt.gov by March 17. This will be the only Bowhunter Education course in Miles City this year.

Class times are 6-9 p.m. on March 22, 23 and 24 at the Fish, Wildlife & Parks headquarters in Miles City. Saturday’s class is from 8 a.m.-noon and includes the field day at Spotted Eagle Recreation Area. Dress for the weather and in appropriate clothing for hunting.

Once registered, students must pick up homework packets from the FWP office no later than March 17 or they will be dropped from the class. Work must be completed prior to the first class.

Sidney

June 8, 14-17

The class is limited to 35 students. Registration is open online from May 9-June 8; no late registrations. Print and bring all required files to orientation on June 8, from 6-8 p.m. at the Eastern Ag Research Center. Workbooks and assignments will be handed out at orientation and all chapter quizzes must be completed before the first class. A parent or guardian must attend orientation if students are under 18.

Class is from 6-9 p.m. on June 14-16. The field day is June 17 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., also at Eastern Ag Research. Field day is open to a limit of 15 online students. They must register starting May 16 and must attend orientation on June 16 at 5:30 p.m. They also must bring a photo ID, proof of test completion and printed files from the registration site to be admitted. All field day participants should wear proper hunting attire.

Broadus

June 24-25

Class is limited to 25 students. Registration is online from February 8-June 23. Materials must be picked up by June 19 from instructor Jeff Noble at the Powder River County Courthouse or by calling 406-436-2365. They should be completed before beginning class.

Class is June 24 and 25 from noon-7 p.m. at the courthouse in the county attorney’s office. A parent must attend on the first day to sign permission slips. The field day on June 25 is not open to online students.
