Fish, Wildlife and Parks is seeking public comment on a draft environmental assessment to acquire and manage 40 acres from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation in central Montana.
Recently acquired by RMEF, the property contains a 30-foot common boundary with the Lewis and Clark National Forest in the Big Snowy Mountains in Fergus County. Purchase would provide access to about 18,000 acres of national forest service land.
FWP plans to prepare the site for public use, including establishing a parking area, a well defined trail, appropriate fencing and boundary signage. However, the land along Red Hill Road south of Lewistown is currently not open to the public.
The draft EA is available for public viewing on FWP’s web site http://fwp.mt.gov (“News,” then “Public Notices”, then “Environmental Assessments”), by e-mailing email@example.com, by phoning (406) 538-4658, or by mail from Region 4 FWP, 4600 Giant Springs Road, Great Falls, 59405.
Comments may be made online on the EA webpage or may be directed by mail or e-mail to the addresses above. Comments must be received by FWP no later than 5 p.m. on Oct. 13, 2013.
