Hunting - Region 6
Wednesday, December 28, 2011
Montanans will have a number of opportunities to review and comment on 2012-2013 hunting regulations proposals by going on online now or by attending one of 40 upcoming public meetings.
Last summer, FWP held seven scoping meetings across the state and received more than 150 comments that led to several new hunting season proposals. Details on the proposed hunting regulations are available on FWP's website at fwp.mt.gov. Click "2012-2013 Hunting Proposals," where one can find a complete calendar of the 40 meetings times and locations and additional information on each proposal.
The proposals encompass hunting season dates and nearly every huntable species in the state, including antelope, black bear, bighorn sheep, bison, deer, elk, moose, mountain goat, mountain lion and a variety of upland game birds and waterfowl.
In FWP Region 6, proposed regulations include reducing the 699-00 antlerless whitetail deer “B” license quota from 4,000 to 1,000; eliminating the Hunting District 622 antlerless elk permits while maintaining elk “B” licenses there; and changing Hunting District 640 back to a five-week antlered buck deer season from the current three-week buck season.
The FWP Commission has also put five options for elk archery seasons out for public review. In Region 6 this would potentially affect the elk archery season in Hunting Districts 620, 621 and 622.
Public meetings on the proposed statewide and regional hunting regulation changes will take place in Region 6 at the Malta High School Cafeteria on Jan. 11; the Great Northern Inn in Havre on Jan. 12; the Cottonwood Inn in Glasgow on Jan. 18; and the Jubilee Room of the Sheridan County Library in Plentywood on Jan. 19. Each of these meetings will run from 7 – 9 p.m.
Comments may be submitted at the local meetings, which are set for Jan 3-19 statewide, or online at fwp.mt.gov. Written comments also may be sent to: FWP—Wildlife Bureau, Attn: Public Comment, P.O. Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620-0701. For questions not covered on the website, call: 406-444-2612.
Comments are due by 5 p.m. on Jan. 23, 2012. The FWP Commission will adopt final regulations at its Feb. 16 meeting in Helena.
