Hunters anxious to prepare for Montana’s spring turkey gobbler season can obtain an application for the special spring turkey permit drawing by going on the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Web site at fwp.mt.gov .
Spring turkey season begins April 10. Residents must have a 2010 conservation and upland game bird license and nonresidents will need a conservation license to purchase a turkey license.
In addition to opportunities to hunt male turkey in most of eastern Montana’s general turkey hunting areas, recent regulation changes mean that over-the-counter licenses are now valid in more western counties, including all of Lincoln, Flathead, and Ravalli counties and portions of Missoula, Lake and Sanders counties.
Hunters wanting to pursue turkeys in some other portions of western Montana this spring will need a special spring male turkey permit available through a special drawing.
Details on spring turkey hunting in the general hunting areas and special permit areas, and information on how to apply, are available in the 2010 Spring Turkey Hunting Regulations on the FWP Web site at fwp.mt.gov .
