An error on Montana's special big game resident hunting license and permit applications resulted in incorrect instructions for resident hunters born after Jan. 1, 1985.

The paper applications state in error that resident hunters born after Jan. 1, 1985 must submit a copy of their hunter education certificate. Resident hunters need only enter their hunter education certificate number, which can be obtained from the FWP Web site's hunter education page. Search or click "Duplicate Certificates."

The error is found on applications for moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, and bison, which are due May 1; and for deer, elk and antelope, which are due June 1.

Nonresidents born after Jan.1, 1985, however, are required to submit a copy of their hunter education certificate to verify they have completed an authorized hunter safety course.

FWP's online applications, which do not contain the error, can be found on the FWP Web site at fwp.mt.gov. Click For Hunters then Licenses & Permits.
