The Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission is seeking public comment on proposed rules for conducting the 2004 annual bighorn sheep and Shiras moose license auction.

Under the proposed rules, the FWP Commission may consider bids from individuals for the bighorn sheep and moose licenses; select a wildlife conservation organization to conduct an auction; or direct FWP to conduct an auction. Ninety percent of the license auction proceeds each year go to benefit mountain sheep and moose conservation in the state.

Recently, the FWP Commission was authorized by the Montana Legislature‚Äôs House Bill 20 to create rules and to sell an elk and a deer license by auction, bid, or a lottery.  The Commission will solicit public comment on the rules for the elk and deer license auction process after the legislation goes into effect in October.

The public may comment through May 21 on the bighorn sheep and moose license auction rules by email to: fwpwld@state.mt.us . Written comments can be mailed to: Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, Wildlife Division, P.O. Box 200701, Helena, MT, 59620-0701. The FWP Commission will set the final rules for the 2004 bighorn sheep and moose license process at its June meeting.
