Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking public comment on an environmental assessment for a proposal to establish a new grazing lease on the Robb-Ledford Wildlife Management Area on the western slopes of the Snowcrest Mountains approximately 20 miles south of Alder.
FWP proposes to enter into a three-year lease from January 2010 to October 2012 with the Ledford Creek Grazing Association allowing the continuation of a rest-rotation grazing system on the wildlife management area.
The proposed lease would total 32,378 acres and encompass multiple land ownerships—17,302 acres owned by FWP, 10,796 acres leased by FWP from the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC), 680 acres owned by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, and 3,600 acres owned by DNRC known as the McGuire section, which is leased by the Ledford Creek Grazing Association (and incorporated into the Robb-Ledford Coordinated Grazing System through an exchange of use agreement).
In conjunction with the lease agreement, FWP proposes to install a 3.84-mile riparian fence along Robb Creek and establish three small water gap access points in order to protect the existing riparian areas from livestock grazing.
Comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. on October 5, 2009, and should be mailed or emailed to:
