Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) issued a decision notice to pave the day-use area of Salmon Lake State Park but not add any other enhancements at this time.

The loop road and parking areas at the day-use area will be paved, a cable mat for the swim dock installed, and the staging area to the boat docks improved.

The project’s original proposal, out for public review in March, also included paving the interior campground road and parking areas and adding electrical hook-ups at the campsites.

The decision not to proceed with the projects at the campground unit came after 16 public comments were received.  Most comments opposed adding electrical hookups to the site, and only a few comments addressed the proposal to pave the campground interior roads.

Before reconsidering adding electrical hookups and paving of the campground unit  FWP would complete further analysis of both actions and seek additional public comment.

The final EA and decision notice are available for review.  To request a copy, contact the FWP Missoula office at (406) 542-5500 or follow the link under “Recent Public Notices” on FWP’s website: fwp.mt.gov.
