TWO YOUNG HUNTERS BAG THEIR FIRST DEER ON OPENING DAY
Troy Falcon of Billings and Jonathan Kelly of Laurel bagged their first deer on opening day—a 4x5 and a 4 pt mule deer buck respectively.
Troy, a recent Hunter Ed graduate and first-time hunter, harvested his buck in the Butcher Creek area around Red Lodge. "The first shot at 75 yards knocked him down," Troy said, "but I killed him with the second shot."
This was Jonathan's second year of hunting, but his first successful kill. Jonathan's buck was harvested south of Belfry off Dry Creek. He got his deer with one shot at 150 yards.
