Due to low water levels, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is advising Cooney State Park visitors to leave their trailered boats at home.

Low water levels are affecting all boat launches at the state park. The area near the North Shore launch had remained usable for small boats, but is now experiencing muddy conditions. Boaters are cautioned to launch at their own risk.

Cooney State Park is the only FWP managed site on Cooney Reservoir. The irrigation reservoir is a tributary of Red Lodge Creek. Water levels have been drawn down significantly for crop irrigation in the area.

For more information on launching conditions, please contact Cooney State Park at (406) 445-2326 or the FWP office in Billings at (406) 247-2940.
