Proposed FAS South of Great Falls
Headlines - Region 4

Monday, August 28, 2006

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is seeking public comment on a proposed fishing access site (FAS) on the Missouri River about six miles southwest of Great Falls.

The proposed Cottonwood FAS would be 12 river miles downstream of Ulm Bridge FAS and 8 miles upstream of Big Bend FAS.

PPL Montana currently owns the four-acre property and proposes to sell it to FWP for $30,000. PPL Montana bought the property in Dec. 2004 with the intent of turning it into a public access site as required by the federal Energy Regulatory Commission relicensing project for PPL Montana dams on the Missouri River.

PPL Montana will contribute $10,000 annually to help cover operations and maintenance.

The FAS will be a carry-in boat launch site open only during daylight hours.

Copies of the environmental assessment (EA) are available by contacting FWP, Region 4, 4600 Giant Springs Road, Great Falls, MT 59405, or call (406) 454-5850, or on the FWP web site: www.fwp.mt.gov

Comments on the EA will be accepted until 5 p.m., Sept. 11, 2006. Send comments to: Cottonwood Grove Fishing Access Site EA, FWP, 4600 Giant Springs Road, Great Falls, MT 59405.
