Hunters interested in taking part of any game damage hunting opportunities on private land this fall and winter need to register before July 15.
Registration is available online at the Fish, Wildlife and Parks web site: www.fwp.mt.gov.
In FWP’s Region 4, north central Montana, game damage hunts have occurred in the past for deer and elk in the Lewistown and Great Falls areas and for deer near Shelby and Conrad.
Last December, for example, winter weather at the beginning of the month had FWP wildlife biologists gearing up to contact hunters for a deer damage hunt. Then warm weather arrived and the snow melted. If that occurs again, FWP will use the online roster to contact hunters.
To sign up, sportsmen need to go to the FWP web site, and click on Game Damage Hunt Roster under the headline “For Hunters.”
Hunters will be allowed to pick one hunting district for each species: deer, elk and antelope. Districts with a history of game damage hunts are highlighted, though hunters may sign up for any district.
A final game damage hunt roster will be posted by Aug. 1. FWP will contact hunters on the rosters when hunting opportunities arise.
