HUNTER/BOWHUNTER INSTRUCTORS HONORED AT KALISPELL WORKSHOP 

Hunter/Bowhunter Education Instructors were honored at the annual meeting for northwest Montana instructors Saturday at Flathead Valley Community College.  A total of 88 instructors were in attendance, representing a combined teaching experience of about 1,000 years.   

Hunter Education Lead Instructor Phil Crismore of Plains received his 35 year service award.  In addition, 36 other instructors received service awards ranging from 5-25 years (see attached list by county).  All 14 assistant/junior instructors who attended received recognition and gift certificates.  This was a great turnout for these 14-17 year-old instructors.  

Bowhunter Education Instructors Dave Yeats of Columbia Falls and Roger Allick of Kalispell both won special awards presented by Region One wardens Frank Bowen, Brian Sommers, Lee Anderson, and Perry Brown.  Yeats and Allick were singled out for their quality of teaching and organizational skills in the Bowhunter Education Program. 

Chuck Williams of Kalispell won a special award for his promotion of youth hunting over the past 25 years.  Williams buys “Take your child hunting, rather than hunting for your child” ads in newspapers during each hunting season.  

There are a total of 209 Hunter Education Instructors and 67 Bowhunter Education Instructors in northwest Montana.  These instructors, who serve as volunteers for FWP, certify over 2,000 students each year.
