Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking comment on the draft Upper Missouri River Reservoir Management Plan. The plan addresses the fisheries of Canyon Ferry, Hauser, and Holter reservoirs, and the Missouri River from Toston to Townsend and between Hauser and Holter reservoirs.

"This plan sets management direction for a 10-year period by providing specific management goals and strategies for each of these waters," said Bruce Rich, regional fisheries manager in Bozeman. "The plan also provides a framework for continued public involvement in monitoring and evaluating the proposed fisheries management activities, including fishing regulations."

A management work group appointed by FWP and comprised of representatives from the public with diverse backgrounds, reached general agreement on two important goals for a 10-year management plan, which include population goals for trout, walleye and perch. The goals include:

A three-reservoir system managed as a high quality, cost-effective multi-species fishery with high levels of angler satisfaction.

An annual process for monitoring and evaluating the new 10-year plan that is open to the public and other affected interests.

The draft plan is available from FWP, 1420 East Sixth Ave., Helena, MT 59620-0701, the Great Falls Regional Office, 4600 Giant Springs Road, the Bozeman Regional Office, 1400 S. 19th Ave., the Helena Area Resource Office, 930 Custer, the Butte Area Resource Office, 1820 Meadowlark Lane, or by calling (406) 444-2449.
