The deadline for purchasing 1999 mountain lion licenses is August 31. Applications for lion licenses submitted through the mail must be postmarked by that date. Mountain lion licenses are available only at FWP offices.

Hound handlers are reminded that they must also obtain a free hound handler permit no later than August 31 to hunt or chase mountain lions. A hound handler permit can also be obtained at any FWP office.

In a change to lion regulations this year, there will be two mountain lion hunting seasons in 1999. A season during which dogs may not be used will be held statewide from October 24 through November 28. This season will close in individual areas when 20 percent of the quota established for that area has been reached, but not later than November 28. A season during which dogs may be used will be held statewide from December 1, 1999, through April 14, 2000. Mountain lion regulations will be available at all FWP offices in early September.
