Friday, December 18, 1998Selected boaters in Montana will soon be taking part in a survey that will help Fish, Wildlife & Parks determine where it can best use available funding for boating improvements.
In 1993, the Montana Legislature passed House Bill 463, which directed a portion of the fees paid in lieu of taxes on motorboats to FWP to fund boating improvements in the state. Part of H.B. 463 required FWP to survey boaters to determine where they do the majority of their boating. The survey results will help FWP discern where the greatest needs currently exist for boating improvements.
In previous years, survey cards were sent to each county to distribute to boaters when they came in to register their vessels. This year, in order to improve the response rate and reduce the burden on county staff, the surveys will be mailed out by FWP to a randomly selected sample of registered boaters.
Those boaters with questions or comments about the survey or boater needs in Montana are urged to call FWP's Parks Division in Helena at 406-444-3750.
