At its May 8 meeting in Helena, the Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission adopted tentative quotas for moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goats and mountain lions for the coming fall's hunting seasons.

In general, moose and mountain goat quotas will remain near 1997 levels across the state, while bighorn sheep quotas will drop slightly, primarily because of concern for the health of sheep populations in some parts of the state.

As tentatively adopted, mountain lion quotas would generally be increased in response to continued good distribution and high numbers of the large predators.

Copies of complete tentative quotas are available by writing to FWP's Wildlife Division, PO Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620-0701. Comments on the proposed quotas will be accepted through May 27.

The FWP Commission will adopt final quotas and seasons for moose, sheep, goats and mountain lions at its May 29 meeting.
