Special Holiday Candlelight Tours of Lewis and Clark Caverns will once again be held on December 20, 21, 27 and 28.
Tour times are at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (406) 287-3541 Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and tour group size is limited to 15 people per group.
Tour costs are $7 for adults (12 and older), $3 for children (ages 6 through 11). The $3 per vehicle Montana State Parks day use fee also is in effect. Candles used in the tours will be provided free of charge. Coffee and cookies will be provided at the visitor center.
Visitors are reminded that this is a two-hour, two-mile tour with approximately 1 1/4 miles outside and may require walking to and from the cave through snowy conditions. Dress for walking in snow, wind and/or cold temperatures. Tours may be canceled on short notice in the event of severe weather.
"For safety reasons, the first (upper) half of the caverns will be shown with the lights on," said Lee Flath, Caverns manager. "The lower half of the cave will be by candlelight." Officials request that children be at least eight years of age to be issued a candle lantern. For the comfort of all, children under five years of age are discouraged from attempting the candlelight tour.
