With the opening of Montana's 1996 general big game season, Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials are reminding hunters that they must secure permission to hunt on private lands. State law dictates that big game hunters must have the permission of owners to hunt on private lands.

Ron Aasheim, administrator of FWP's Conservation Education Division in Helena, noted that the time constraints placed upon some landowners and the agricultural operations by an influx of hunters each fall make courtesy on the part of hunters especially important.

"It's important for hunters to make every effort to show as much respect for private property and landowner concerns as possible," Aasheim said.
