Fishing - Region 4

Fri Sep 15 11:01:35 MDT 2017

Fishing restrictions on the Smith River were lifted at 12:01 a.m., Sept. 15, according to Fish, Wildlife and Parks policy.

The Smith had been closed since July 9 to daily fishing from 2 p.m. to midnight because of increased water temperatures.

Time of day fishing closures, also known as “hoot owl” restrictions, automatically are lifted Sept. 15 by FWP policy.

Back on July 9 both the Smith and Sun rivers in central Montana were closed to daily fishing from 2 p.m. to midnight. The Sun River reopened Sept. 1.
