BILLINGS — State and federal agencies along with the Beartooth Alliance have set a meeting for July 31, 2014, to discuss fisheries management projects on Soda Butte Creek near the northeast entrance to Yellowstone National Park.
The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Range Rider Lodge in Silvergate.
Representatives from Montana Fish, Wildlife and Park; the U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service will join Beartooth Alliance members to discuss ongoing efforts to remove non-native brook trout from Soda Butte Creek and to solicit public input on potential future efforts.
Soda Butte Creek originates in the Beartooth Mountains in southern Montana and runs into the northeast corner of Yellowstone National Park. Despite ongoing efforts, non-native brook trout populations have expanded down Soda Butte Creek into Yellowstone National Park, creating a serious threat to native Yellowstone cutthroat in the lower drainage.
The alliance and all agencies involved are looking for input from area residents and anglers and will answer questions about potential projects.
