Fish & Wildlife - Region 2

Monday, March 19, 2018

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is seeking comment on a proposal to acquire 276 acres of private land located within the outer boundaries of Fish Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA), west of Missoula.

The proposed addition includes private inholdings that would become part of FWP’s 35,041-acre Fish Creek WMA.  The land would be managed for fish and wildlife habitat and public access and recreation.

FWP will hold a public hearing in Alberton on Thursday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Alberton Community Center (701 Railroad Ave) to discuss the proposal, answer questions, and take public comment.

The proposed acquisition is important habitat for deer, elk, moose and other wildlife, and includes over a mile of fisheries habitat along and within Fish Creek that is some of the best remaining habitat in the area for bull trout and westslope cutthroat.

To review the draft EA and to comment, go to FWP’s website, fwp.mt.gov, under “News,” then “Recent Public Notices.” Or, request information or comment by contacting Region 2 FWP, 3201 Spurgin Rd., Missoula 59804; by phoning 406-542-5540; or by emailing shrose@mt.gov.  Comments must be submitted by 5p.m. on April 13, 2018.
