BILLINGS —  Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks issued a notice Thursday that it will proceed with purchase of a 425-acre addition to the Grant Marsh Wildlife Management Area seven miles north of Hardin in Big Horn County.

In January FWP issued an environmental assessment, which recommended purchase of the property with management goals of riparian wildlife habitat conservation, upland habitat enhancement primarily for white-tailed deer and pheasants, and providing substantial public hunting and recreational opportunities.

The department held public hearings and accepted written comments in February. A summary of those comments and the department’s responses are included in the final decision notice issued Thursday.

The decision notice recommends that FWP proceed with the purchase, which still needs approval from the Fish and Wildlife Commission and the Montana Land Board.

The signed decision notice is available online to read or download at and follow links to News, Decision Notices, and Grant Marsh WMA Decision Notice.
