Tue Nov 18 14:12:47 MST 2014

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks announced Friday that Sam Sheppard has been named the new Region 3 Supervisor. Sheppard takes over the role vacated in August by Pat Flowers.

Sheppard has been with the Department for 20 years, spending the last 12 years as Region 3’s Warden Captain. Prior to Region 3, Sheppard served as the Warden Captain in Glasgow, Montana (Region 6), a criminal investigator based in Helena, and also spent time as a field warden in Broadus, Montana.

“It has been a privilege to work for Fish, Wildlife & Parks and this is an opportunity that I take on with enthusiasm and passion,” said Sheppard. “This region is filled with such a highly motivated group of professionals; I’m excited to continue the work with them protecting and conserving our amazing resources and working with all interests.”

FWP’s Chief of Operations Paul Sihler pointed to Sheppard’s breadth of experience when it came to the selection process.

“Sam is especially well-suited for this position given the depth of his knowledge on the vast array of issues facing Region 3,” Sihler said. “His ability to build strong relationships with different interest groups will be essential as the agency moves forward.”

Twenty-three people applied to fill the Supervisor vacancies in Region 1 and Region 3. Finalists for each position presented at recent public forums in Bozeman and Kalispell. Wildlife Manager Jim Williams was chosen for the Region 1 position.
