FWP Seeks Comment on Proposal to Acquire Mineral Rights in Fish Creek

Thursday, May 26, 2011

Fish & Wildlife - Region 2

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is seeking public comment on a proposal to acquire hard-rock mineral rights under 29,488 acres of FWP’s recently acquired Fish Creek Wildlife Management Area and State Park.

This proposed mineral right purchase from CR Montana Corporation would ensure no mineral exploration or extraction activities would occur under the majority of FWP’s Fish Creek Property. Eliminating the potential for these activities would enhance the protection of fish and wildlife habitat for which the property was originally purchased.

The public is invited to review and comment on the environmental assessment (EA) through June 27, 2011. The EA is available on FWP’s website at fwp.mt.gov under “Recent Public Notices,” at the FWP regional office in Missoula (3201 Spurgin Road), by calling 406-542-5500, or by emailing fwprg22@mt.gov

Comments should be directed by mail to Rebecca Cooper, FWP, PO Box 200701, Helena, MT59620-0701; phone to 406-444-4756; or email to rcooper@mt.gov. Comments must be received by FWP no later than 5 P.M. on June 27, 2011.
