A young bull moose was shot and left to waste this week at the Yorks Islands Fishing Access Site south of Townsend.

The dead moose was reported to FWP Wednesday. Warden Sergeant Dave Loewen responded to the scene and found the moose (guided by a bird hunter) in heavy brush about 100 yards north of one of the campsites.

“To see it laying in the brush rotting because someone decided to shoot it and leave it is appalling,” said Loewen. “Everyone who cares about Montana’s wildlife should be outraged.”

The moose appeared to have been healthy at the time it was shot.

Anyone with information pertaining to this case, or other cases in which fish and wildlife resources are being stolen from Montanans, is urged to call (800) TIP-MONT and may be eligible for a reward.
