Hunter Education Classes have been scheduled for a number of communities in northwest Montana. All hunter education classes are free of charge. By state law, anyone born after January 1, 1985, must have completed the Hunter Education Course to buy a hunting license in Montana. To become certified, students must be at least 11 years old.
All students must register online (Register online at fwp.mt.gov, click education) for the following courses. When registering, students will note specific information and guidelines for the course included in the online posting.
Columbia Falls: Register online at fwp.mt.gov, click education. Register by March 23. After registering online, all students must attend a brief mandatory orientation at the Columbia Falls fire hall on March 26th between the hours of 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm; students must bring their permission slip with them at that time, and they will receive their manuals and assignments. Classes will be from 7:00PM to 9:00PM at the Columbia Falls High School April 11, 15, 16, 18, 22, 23, and 25. The field course is scheduled for Saturday, April 27. Test night is April 30. Kalispell: Register online at fwp.mt.gov, click education. All students must attend a mandatory orientation on Saturday, April 13 at Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks at 490 North Meridian Road in Kalispell. At the orientation, students will pick up their manuals and receive course instructions. The orientation will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and students will need to stop in for the brief orientation any time during that period. Classes will be held at the Flathead High School from 6-9 p.m. on April 22, 23, 24, and 25. The field course will be held on Saturday, April 27. Test night is April 29. Olney: Register online at fwp.mt.gov, click education. Register by March 23. Students must pick up their student manuals either at Thad’s Tackle shop or at the Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks office in Kalispell. Classes are held at the Olney Fire Hall, 5:30-8 p.m. on April 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, and 17. Contact Thad Briggs at 881-2819.
Whitefish: Register online at fwp.mt.gov, click education. Classes are held at the Whitefish Central School. Classes run from 6-9 p.m. on March 4, 5, 7 and 8. The field course is held on Saturday, March 9. Call Ronny Nail at 862-4509 for more information.
Bigfork: Register online at fwp.mt.gov, click education. First night of class is Wednesday, March 27, 7:05 p.m. at the Bigfork High School Music Room. The remainder of classes will be held 6-9 p.m. on April 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 8. The field course will be held on Saturday, April 6. Call Rod Day for more information, 309-2293; or FWP at 752-5501.
Eureka: Register online at fwp.mt.gov, click education. First night of class is March 4, 7-9 p.m. at the Eureka Middle School Library. Classes continue from 7-9 p.m. on March 11, 12, 14, 18, 19, 21; field day is Saturday, March 16. Call Ron Hvizdak at 889-3791 for more information.
Ronan: Register online at fwp.mt.gov, click education. May also register at first night of class on March 1. Class meets 7-9 p.m. on March 1, 6, 7, 8, 11, and 12; Field course is Saturday, March 9, 8-11 a.m. Class meets at Ronan High School, 130 3rd avenue NW in Ronan. Salmon Prairie (located in the Swan Valley south of Swan Lake): Register online at fwp.mt.gov, click education. Class will be held at Salmon Prairie School on April 8-12 from 6-9 p.m. Field course is Saturday April 13 beginning at 9 a.m. Contact Ron Ream, 406-754-0031 for more information. (Also talk to Ron regarding the bow ed course at the same location beginning April 22.)
Trout Creek: Register online at fwp.mt.gov, click education. Classes held at the Trout Creek Fire Hall; First class is held on March 29, 7-9 p.m., additional schedule will be determined that first night based on student schedules. For more information, contact Harold Hudson, 827-4010.

Mandatory Orientation night for Hunter Education and Bowhunter Education is held March 5th , 6-8 p.m. at Plains High School.
Hunter education course is held March 25-29, 6-8:30 p.m. at Plains High School. Field course is held April 6, 10a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Plains Trap Club.
Bowhunter education course is held April 8-11, 6-8:30 p.m.; field course is April 12, 10 a.m.
