A Bowhunter Education class will take place in Malta from May 4 through May 9.
The first class starts at 6:30 p.m. on Mon., May 4 at the First Security Bank meeting room. If the student is under 18, a parent or guardian must attend the first 10 minutes of the first class. Please use the back door of the bank building. The meeting room is downstairs.
A mandatory field day for the course, where practical skills are tested, will start at 6:30 p.m. on Thurs., May 8 at Shelter Three in Trafton Park.
The Bowhunter Education course is free, and pre-registration is requested, but not required. Students may sign up in advance with Matt Veit or Sherry Demarais at First Security Bank. For more information about the class, call John Demarais at 390-4045.
By state law, all first-time bowhunters must complete a Bowhunter Education course in order to purchase an archery license. Bowhunters born after Jan. 1, 1985, must also show proof of completing Hunter Education classes.
Next week’s Bowhunter Education class is the only one planned in the Malta area this year.
Students over the age of 18 who are seeking Bowhunter certification have the option of taking the course online at the FWP Web site (fwp.mt.gov) and participating in a separate field day event at a later date.
