This news release was archived on Saturday, August 4, 2012

MILES CITY, Mont. --- The BLM Miles City Field Office has issued Fire Closure Orders closing three areas to public use due to current extreme fire conditions.
The Closure Orders are intended to protect property and resources from human caused fire starts.
The Strawberry Hill Recreation Area, located east of Miles City and accessed by Hwy 12, as well as nearby Dean S. Reservoir, located near the Pine Hills Estates are closed to the public until further notice.
The Pumpkin Creek Ranch and Recreation Area, located 15 miles south of Miles City and accessed by Highway 59 is closed to the public until July 9.
Closure orders exempt federal, state, or local officer, or member of an organized search and rescue or firefighting force in their performance of official duties.
The BLM currently has imposed Stage 1 fire restrictions on BLM-administered lands in Big Horn, Carter, Custer, Dawson, Fallon, Powder River, Prairie, Rosebud and Wibaux counties. BLM Stage 1 restrictions will also take effect in McCone County July 6 at noon when the county goes into Stage 1 status. Stage 2 restrictions are currently in effect in Treasure County.
The extreme probability of accidental fire starts is evident by several small fires that were reported today, including one which burned along Highway 12 near the Strawberry Hill Recreation Area. Bear in mind that additional county-wide restrictions may be in place in addition to those by the BLM and U.S. Forest Service. Contact your local fire department or sheriff’s office for clarification.
To report wildfires contact your local fire department, sheriff’s office or the BLM Miles City Interagency Fire Dispatch Center at 406.233.2900.
