Seeley Lake Waters Reopened to all Recreation

Seeley Lake waters are open again to boating and other recreation. The lake has been under a temporary emergency closure while aircraft used most of the lake to draw water to fight the Rice Ridge Fire.

Fishing restrictions lifted on Madison River

(HELENA, Mont.)—Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will lift the hoot owl restrictions on the lower Madison River from Ennis Dam to the mouth effective Friday. With cooler water temperatures, this section has met criteria for reopening.

Lake Frances Reopened to All Recreation

Lake Frances next to the town of Valier in Pondera County was reopened 12:01 a.m., Sept. 15, to all public recreation.

Blackfoot-Clearwater WMA and The Nature Conservancy Lands Reopened

The Blackfoot-Clearwater Wildlife Management Area (WMA) and all of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) lands in western Montana are now open for public use. The lands had been closed due to extreme fire conditions and nearby fire activity and evacuations.

Campfires now banned at Makoshika State Park

Dawson County Commissioners have decided to ban all campfires in the county due to continuing drought and fire danger, so Fish, Wildlife & Parks will follow suit and ban campfires at Makoshika State Park effective immediately.

Fire Suppression Forces Closure of Lake Frances

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) has closed Lake Frances by Valier in Pondera County for public safety while crews use the lake water to fight several fires on the Rocky Mountain Front.

(HELENA, Mont.)—Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) is temporarily closing Lake Frances in Pondera County, effective immediately, so that lake water can safely be used to help fight nearby wildfires.

With low flows, another section of Big Hole River to close to all fishing

(HELENA, Mont.)—The Big Hole River from Saginaw Bridge on Skinner Meadows Road to the mouth of the North Fork of the Big Hole River (Section I) will close entirely to fishing effective Friday, Sept.8. Fishing will be prohibited all day every day (this section had previously been under hoot owl restrictions).
