Wildlife Management Area Reopens


Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks has reopened the Yellowstone River Wildlife Management Area west of Pompey’s Pillar to the public as the recent Lambert wildfire has been contained. Fire fighters from the Montana DNRC and Worden Fire Department successfully contained and extinguished this fire with the help of a good rain at this site on the night of August 21st.

Murphy Lake Closed to Boating due to Fire Suppression Activities


Murphy Lake in its entirety, south of Eureka, in Lincoln County, is being closed to all boating, motorized and non-motorized and all recreation until further notice. The closure is necessary to protect the safety of public and Chinook helicopter pilots while dipping to collect water to fight wild fires on Mount Marston and Mount Barnaby

Hoot Owl Restriction Removed on Section of Big Hole


After consistent readings of lower water temperatures, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks has lifted the “Hoot Owl” restriction on the Big Hole River prohibiting fishing from 2 p.m. to midnight on the stretch of river running from Maiden Rock Fishing Access Site to Notch Bottom Fishing Access Site.
