Trail/Road Closures In Wildcat Creek/Lake Area Set For Sept 13-16

Public Lands Restrictions, Closures & Reopenings - Region 1

Tue Sep 14 00:00:00 MDT 2010

The South Fork Flathead westslope cutthroat trout conservation program will continue this fall with rotenone treatment of Wildcat Creek on September 13-16.  Because of the need for public safety, the following trails/roads will be closed from September 13-16:

--Wildcat Lake trail 723;

--Wildcat Lake within 500 feet of the shoreline;

-- Wounded Buck and Wildcat Creek roads:  This includes: Forest Road #5339, from junction with #895C to end of road and Forest Road #11003 from junction with #5339 to end of road.

Treatment of Wildcat Lake is planned for September 27-30, and the same road and trail closures will be in place during this time period.  The purpose of these projects is to remove nonnative trout and the threat they pose to westslope cutthroat trout in the South Fork drainage.  Westslope cutthroat trout will be stocked in Wildcat Lake the following spring to reestablish the recreational fishery
