Big Hole River and Powerhouse FAS Closures Update

Public Lands Restrictions, Closures & Reopenings - Region 3
This news release was archived on Wednesday, July 28, 2010

The Big Hole River closure planned for July 6 has been pushed back to Monday, July 12 due to high water conditions.  Those conditions are delaying the start of Butte-Silver Bow County’s reconstruction of the diversion dam downstream from the Powerhouse Fishing Access Site (2 ½ miles west of Divide).

During the reconstruction project, the Big Hole will be closed to all floaters between Silver Bridge and Divide Bridge. Big Hole users will be directed with clearly marked signage to exit the river at the Powerhouse FAS (Silver Bridge). Powerhouse FAS will be the last take out point for all floaters. For this reason, Fish, Wildlife and Parks anticipates an increase in usage at Powerhouse FAS. Therefore, FWP will temporarily close Powerhouse FAS on the morning of Thursday, July 8 from approximately 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to make minor improvements in order to accommodate these additional users.

Construction of the diversion dam is expected to be completed by October 31. The Big Hole will reopen at that point or sooner if safe to do so.
