Glasgow’s youth fishing pond, Home Run Pond, is closed to fishing until it opens for the winter season on Saturday, January 13.
That’s the date set by Fish, Wildlife & Parks and the Glasgow chapter of Walleyes Unlimited for the annual ice-fishing festival on the pond, located in Sullivan Park east of Glasgow on the Fort Peck Highway. Ice fishing will be prohibited until the festival in order to keep young anglers off unsafe ice.
Following the festival, the pond will be open to fishing for the balance of the winter, until unsafe ice conditions prompt closure prior to the open-water spring season.
Home Run Pond is open to all anglers age 14 and younger. During the Jan. 13 festival, volunteers will be on hand to assist anglers, fishing gear and bait will be provided, and cocoa and coffee will be available. Unlike previous years, no lunch will be served.
