Home Run Pond closed to fishing until Jan. 14 ice-fishing festival

Glasgow’s youth fishing pond, Home Run Pond, will be closed to fishing until it opens for the winter season on Saturday, January 14.

That’s the date set by Fish, Wildlife & Parks and Walleyes Unlimited for the annual ice-fishing festival on the pond, located in Sullivan Park east of Glasgow on the Fort Peck Highway. According to the City of Glasgow, who owns the pond, ice fishing will be prohibited until the festival in order to keep young anglers off unsafe ice.

Following the festival, the pond will be open to fishing for the balance of the winter, until unsafe ice conditions prompt closure until the open-water season of the spring.

Home Run Pond is open to all anglers age 14 and younger. During the Jan. 14 festival, volunteers will be on hand to assist anglers, fishing gear and bait will be provided, and Walleyes Unlimited will host a free lunch.
