Southeast Montana Elk Numbers Continue to Rise


MILES CITY, Mont.-- Recent surveys conducted by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (MFWP) Wildlife Biologist, Dean Waltee, show elk populations across southeast Montana continue to increase.

Flooding Forces Closure of Twelve Mile FAS


MILES CITY, Mont.--Flood conditions prompted Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) to close Twelve Mile Fishing Access Site (FAS) on the Tongue River today. The FAS will remain closed until river levels subside and the site is again safe for recreation. For updates on closures, check the FWP website at and follow links to “restrictions and closures.”

Aggressive lion killed near Red Lodge


Montana and federal wildlife officials killed a mountain lion south of Red Lodge Thursday after it tried to attack a woman walking her dog.

Road access to River Junction Fishing Access Site (FAS) and campground, near Ovando, will be closed from noon on Tuesday, June 11 through noon on Thursday, June 13 while a road culvert is replaced.

Spring Black Bear Season To Close In Bear Management Unit 520


The hunting of all black bears in the Bear Management Unit 520, which include portions of Park, Sweet Grass, Stillwater and Carbon counties, will close one-half hour after sunset on Friday, May 31, 2013.
