Elk and Deer Permit Application is Due March 15


March 15 is the deadline to apply for Montana's 2013 deer and elk hunting permits. An easy-to-use eight-page application packet is now available from all hunting license providers, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks offices and online at

Northwest Montana Hunter/Bowhunter Education Instructors Honored


Hunter and Bowhunter Education Instructors will receive service awards from Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks at the annual Region 1 Instructor Workshop to be held Saturday, March 2 at Flathead Valley Community College in Kalispell. A total of 34 Instructors will receive service awards ranging from 5 to 35 years of service. All service award recipients receive a plaque; additional awards include: 10 year: engraved knife; 20 year: FWP belt buckle. A number of other awards will also be presented.

Hunter Education Classes Scheduled For Somers, Polson


Hunter Education Classes have been scheduled for a number of communities in northwest Montana. All hunter education classes are free of charge. By state law, anyone born after January 1, 1985, must have completed the Hunter Education Course to buy a hunting license in Montana. To become certified, students must be at least 11 years old.

Walleye in Noxon Rapids Reservoir


Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (MFWP), Region One, is seeking public comment for the Investigation of Suppression of Walleye in Noxon Rapids Reservoir public draft environmental assessment, a proposal to conduct a 6-year effort to investigate suppressing illegally introduced walleye in Noxon Reservoir using a variety of sampling gear and techniques.

Otter Season Will Close In Trapping District 4


By order of the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission, the season for trapping otters in Trapping District 4 in northcentral Montana will close at midnight on the evening of Saturday, March 2, 2013.

Polar Bear Program At Montana Wild On February 27


Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will host a free program on the polar bears of Churchill, Canada, at Montana Wild, 2668 Broadwater Ave., next to Spring Meadow Lake State Park off Highway 12 West.

Montana's spring male turkey hunting season begins April 13, and the deadline to apply for a Montana spring turkey permit, needed for some areas, is March 7.
