Public Meetings Set to Discuss Fort Peck Fisheries Plan

Seven public open-house meetings have been scheduled in Eastern and Central Montana to discuss pending revisions to the Fort Peck Reservoir Fisheries Management Plan. Proposed changes to fishing regulations in the state’s Eastern Fishing District will also be discussed at some of the meetings.

Closure of Cooney State Park

In conjunction with a request from Carbon County Commissioner John Grewell and Sheriff Tom Rieger, Montana State Parks has closed Clooney State Park in Roberts, MT, effective immediately.

Friends of Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park Host National Trails Day Event on Saturday, June 4

Join the Friends of Lewis & Clark Caverns on Saturday, June 4 as they host the American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day® 2011“Made With All Natural Ingredients”. Learn about noxious weeds and help clean up the trails at Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park. Participants will enjoy a free lunch provided by the park, as well as prizes and raffles. Everyone is welcome. Wear sturdy walking shoes and bring water, sunscreen, gloves, and gardening tools.

FWP Seeks Comment on Proposed Boating Regulation Changes Near Missoula

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking comments on a proposal to modify existing boating regulations on portions of the Bitterroot and Clark Fork Rivers near Missoula and a small section of the Blackfoot just upstream from the former Milltown Dam site.

Spring Black Bear Season To Close In Bear Management Unit 520

The hunting of all black bears in the Bear Management Unit 520, which include portions of Park, Sweet Grass, Stillwater and Carbon counties, will close one-half hour after sunset on Saturday, May 28, 2011.

Flooding Forces Bitterroot and Clark Fork FAS Closures, Others Likely

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) closed many Fishing Access Sites (FASs) on the Bitterroot River and a few on the Clark Fork this week due to high water and flood conditions. Other FAS closures are likely as water levels rise, and FWP urges caution if venturing on or near rivers during high water.
