Hunters Asked to Help with CWD Monitoring


Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials are again asking hunters, outfitters, landowners and others to help monitor for chronic wasting disease, also known as CWD.

Slash Piles To Be Burned On Wild Horse Island Next Week


Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will be burning slash piles on Wild Horse Island State Park during the week of October 26. The slash piles are the result of hand thinning work being conducted on the island to combat pine bark beetle infestations. For more information, call FWP at 752-5501.

Solid Opening Weekend For Deer/Elk Hunting Season In Northwest Montana


Hunters took to the field Saturday and Sunday across northwest Montana for the opening weekend of the general deer and elk season. At the six northwest Montana check stations, a total of 3,146 hunters checked 136 white-tailed deer, 25 mule deer, and 31 elk for a 6.1 percent rate of hunters with game.

Hunters Fared Well in Western Montana Opening Weekend


For the first time in recent history, deer and elk hunters had two weekend days to head to the field for the opening of the big game rifle season. General deer and elk seasons opened on Saturday, instead of Sunday, this year.
