State Trails Advisory Committee Members Sought

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking volunteer advisory committee members for the State Trails Advisory Committee. The committee advises the agency on the expenditure of up $735,000 of Recreational Trails Program funds, discusses recreational trails issues and recommends solutions to trails issues. "We are seeking members who are actively involved in cross-county skiing, backcountry hiking and off-highway motorcycle riding to ensure that the interests represented by the committee members brings balance and a range of perspectives," said Bob Walker, FWP trails program coordinator. The State Trails Advisory Committee is made up of 16 volunteers representing the primary trail user interests including: hiking, cross-country skiing, bicycling, horseback riding, off-highway motorcycle riding, ATV riding, snowmobiling and 4X4 driving. Other committee participants include representatives of the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, the Department of Transportation’s bicycle-pedestrian coordinator and a representative nominated by local environmental organizations. Committee activities include a review of the existing scoring system used in evaluating and awarding trail grants, support in the implementation of the recently adopted State Trails Plan and planning for the 2002 State Trails Conference.
