Fish, Wildlife & Parks is requesting nominations for the Vince Yannone "Ambassador for Wildlife Award" or "The Vinnie." This award was created by Director Patrick Graham in 1995 and presented to Vince Yannone for his unselfish commitment to the wild creatures of Montana. Presented annually, the award is designed to recognize Montana citizens whose work, words or spontaneous deeds of compassion directly aid in the conservation of Montana’s wildlife. The award was initiated by a story that was related to Graham about a woman who, on her way to work, stopped along a busy highway and removed a deer carcass from the road so that passing traffic would not hit the eagle feeding on the carcass. At that time, FWP did not have a mechanism to recognize individuals for their unselfish efforts to benefit wildlife. Thus, the award was created to carry on the legacy of Yannone’s lifelong devotion to wildlife. FWP will accept nominations for this prestigious award until November 20, 1998. Send nominations, with the nominee’s name, address and phone number, and a brief explanation of why the nominee should receive the award to: Kurt Cunningham, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, 1420 East Sixth Avenue, PO Box 200701, Helena MT 59620-0701. The award winner will be officially recognized at the December FWP Commission Meeting scheduled for December 11 in Helena.
