Tentative 1998 Waterfowl Seasons And Regulations

At its meeting on August 7, the Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission set tentative 1998 waterfowl hunting seasons and regulations. Waterfowl seasons will be finalized after season framework dates are received from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service later in August. Public comments on the following will be accepted through August 28 by FWP’s Wildlife Division, PO Box 200701, Helena MT 59620-0701. The tentative season dates set for the Pacific Flyway:

• Ducks: October 3 through January 16
• Geese: October 3 through January 10
• Bag Limit (ducks): 7 ducks. The only change from last year is a reduction in the number of pintails in the bag to 1.
• Bag Limit (geese): 4 dark geese and 3 light geese

The tentative season dates set for the Central Flyway:

• Ducks: Zone 1 & 2: October 3 through January 7
• Geese: October 3 through January 16
• Bag Limit (ducks): 6 ducks (5 mallards). The only change from last year is a reduction in the number of pintails in the bag to 1.
• Bag Limit (geese): 4 dark geese and 5 light geese

A Youth Waterfowl Day again has been approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The proposed date is September 26. This year geese have been added to the daily bag limit for youngsters hunting on this special day and the limits will BE the same as noted above.
