The access road into Council Grove State Park, located six miles west of Missoula, has been closed due to recent snowfall. The park is still open to visitors who park at the entrance gate and walk or ski into the park, a distance of approximately one half mile. The entrance road will be reopened pending snow conditions. Call the FWP Missoula office at 542-5500 for the current status. Council Grove State Park marks the location of the 1855 council between the Flathead, Kootenai and Pend d’Oreille tribes and the US Government. The site also commemorates the signing of the 1885 Hellgate Treaty, which established the Flathead Indian Reservation. -fwp-
