Yellowstone County fall Hunter Education begins with Laurel

BILLINGS — Laurel High School will offer the first Hunter Education class session in Yellowstone County for this fall. Registration is Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 6:30 p.m. with classes Sept. 8 –12 from 6:30 – 9 p.m. at the school. The field course will be Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Laurel Rod & Gun Club in Riverside Park.

All Hunter Education classes are taught by volunteer instructors and run Monday through Friday from 6:30 - 9 p.m., with a field course on Saturday morning. To receive certification, attendance is required at all classes and the Saturday field course. A parent or guardian must accompany minor students to registration to sign a release form.

Montana law requires anyone born after Jan. 1, 1985, to present a hunter education certificate to purchase hunting licenses in Montana or be eligible to apply for special licenses and permits.

Other fall classes in Yellowstone County include:

Lewis & Clark, Lockwood and Shepherd middle schools   – Registration, 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, and classes running Sept. 15-19 from 6:30 – 9 p.m. at the respective schools. A field day is set at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Lake Elmo State Park.

Lockwood – Registration at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, and classes running Sept. 15-19 from 6:30 – 9 p.m. at the respective schools. A field day is set at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Lake Elmo State Park.

Castle Rock, Riverside and Will James middle schools – Registration, 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, and classes running Sept. 22-26 from 6:30 – 9 p.m. at the respective schools. A field day is set at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Lake Elmo State Park.
