FWP Commission To Meet August 7 And 8 In Helena

The Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission will meet Thursday and Friday, August 7 and 8, at the Fish, Wildlife & Parks headquarters, 1420 East Sixth Avenue in Helena. Heading the agenda for the meeting, which is scheduled to begin on Thursday at 2:15 p.m., will be the adoption of emergency fishing regulation changes for the Ruby River in southwestern Montana and tentative adoption of a plan developed by FWP for the long-term management of Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park. Heading the agenda when commissioners reconvene on Friday morning at 8:15 will be the adoption of final harvest quotas for deer, elk and pronghorn antelope hunting this fall, as well as the adoption of tentative 1997 waterfowl season dates, final 1997-98 trapping quotas for lynx, bobcats and fisher and final permit quotas for Montana’s 1997 fall wild turkey hunting season. The Commission also will discuss future deer management objectives and regulation strategies with FWP staff. On Wednesday, August 6, and prior to the start of its meeting on August 7, the Commission will hold a work session at the Beartooth Wildlife Management Area with FWP staff to discuss FWP’s objectives, goals and budgets. No official action is scheduled to take place during the work session. The public is welcome to attend both the work session and the Commission’s official meeting.
